Last year CR was left in a coma by a freak ski accident, this year he is back on his game and charging backcountry lines like he never left. MSP is glad to have him back and was able to ask him a couple questions about his year...
What was your favorite day of skiing this last season?
A day with Hoji, Ingird and myself in Braylorne, it had been snowing for 2 weeks harder then I have ever seen it snow, and then one day it went 100% blue. Avy conditions were stable as they could be and we jumped in the heli outside the lodge. It was 100% blue, and the lightest, deepest pow ever, got to ski on some of the longest steepest lines I have ever filmed on. As ideal of conditions you could possibly hope for.
What was the coolest place you were able to ski this last season? trip highlights?
Terrace B.C. Northern Escape Heli. The whole trip was a highlight, snowed everyday, yet still able to fly and ski pillow in the trees while it was snowing, when it cleared we were able to go up into the high alpine.
What was the most substantial thing you learned last season?
One day with Ingrid in Whistler, getting frustrated waiting to fly, weather wise. Got dropped a little below the peak. We were hiking to the to the top and the snowpack around us settled and the you just heard a deep, "WOOMP," almost bass like sound, like we were in a club. We were super excited to ski had an amazing spined face ahead of us yet had to turn around and call it a day. Mother nature waived a red flag, and it is a difference of life or death wheather or not you listen to those warinings.
What goals did you achieve last season and what are you hoping to achieve in the future?
My biggest accomplishment this year was returning to skiing after a devastating injury. One year ago, I was given a 10% chance to live and make it out of a coma. I had a doctor that was almost gauranteeing the fact that I would never walk again, and a year later here I am skiing and filming. It was a world of hard work to get here, and a blessing beyond my power at the very same time. In the future I am shooting for returning to skiing as strong as I ever have and even progressing beyond that.
