Denise Schoppe
Bio
Controller
Growing up near Lake Tahoe and skiing since she learned to walk, Denise was naturally drawn to the ski industry, and to the dramatic mountains of Crested Butte.
During her college years at SDSU and SWT/TSU, Denise worked as a paralegal in law firms, and as an executive assistant for the San Diego Chargers. After obtaining her accounting degree, she was recruited by Ernst & Young, LLP for a coveted position as a CPA in their San Diego office. While she loved her work in the real estate division of E&Y, she craved skiing more than work and retired from E&Y in 1999, left the big city yuppie life behind, and pursued her modest dream to live in a small, off-the-grid cabin in the woods and to be a ski bum. Denise, and her amazing giant Alaskan Malamute, Kodiak, arrived in Crested Butte in August of 1999 where she quickly abandoned her goal of being a ski bum and instead established her own accounting and tax practice and became a part of the Matchstick crew. She enthusiastically brings to Matchstick her knowledge, as well as her love of the sport and a deep appreciation of the business.
During her spare time, she built her almost-dream-home on the Slate River and learned to ski deep powder in big mountains on her new, fat skis! Other extra-curricular activities (that she will admit to) include mountain biking, scuba-diving, white-water rafting, surfing, and yes, even snowboarding.
