MSP Story

The state of skiing was completely different in the early 1990’s. Tradition prevailed over innovation, styles were neon and rigid, and progression was stale. Snowboarders had embraced everything that the youth considered hip and cool, and in an effort to distance itself, the ski industry floundered. Steve Winter and Murray Wais helped change all that with a 15-minute film called “Nachos and Fear” in 1992. The ski community’s response to their revolutionary effort was overwhelmingly positive, and these two ski bums instantly realized the potential of this new direction and decided to pursue their calling.

In the 20 years that followed, Steve and Murray built MSP Films and together have produced 24 films, created the HDTV series “Focused,” received Powder Magazine’s “Movie of the Year” award eight times out of eleven, and were nominated for three Emmys in 2006 and 2007 for Outstanding Cinematography. In an industry that has seen the number of film companies explode from three or four to literally dozens, MSP has managed to remain atop the pinnacle while simultaneously branching out into other realms. The skilled team at MSP has worked in every environment imaginable to capture the best images in action sports – from wakeboarding, mountain biking, kayaking, motocross, and BASE jumping right back to their roots in snowboarding and skiing, MSP Films remains the leader in action sport filmmaking.

Owning the deepest and most diverse stock film library in action sports, MSP has the ability to license and create content to suit the needs of any commercial project. MSP’s diverse resume includes an illustrious variety of top clients, including RushHD, Nissan, Budweiser, MTV, Nike, Subaru, Roxy, and many others. MSP is available for production and consultation on a wide variety of shoots, including TV, film, commercials, music videos, and more.

Beyond simply creating content, MSP has the ability to bring your unique message to the masses. MSP’s tour department was created with the intention of broadening worldwide reach and has a proven track record of repeated growth year after year.
