Arne Backstrom
Hometown: Squaw Valley, CA
D.O.B.: October 24, 1980
Bio
In only his second year competing on the prestigious Freeskiing World Tour, Arne Backstrom made a name for himself as an aggressive skier and a fierce competitor. Several podium finishes and a win in Revelstoke helped him win the overall title and the inaugural McConkey Cup in 2010, and Arne landed his big break filming alongside sister Ingrid for MSP’s cameras in March. He demonstrated the same energy and fluid style that made him a force to be reckoned with in big-mountain competitions, slaying lines and stomping big airs near his home of Squaw Valley. Arne’s life and his rapid emergence on the freeskiing scene were tragically cut short on June 3, 2010, when he died during a fall while skiing in Peru. His positive outlook and contagious stoke will be missed by all of us at MSP and everyone who had the pleasure of meeting him.
